Over 600 volunteers collect nearly 2 tons of waste in Bauan, Batangas

BATANGAS, Philippines — In celebration of International Coastal Clean-Up Day on September 20, 2025, SM Supermalls once again took the lead in promoting environmental sustainability. SM Batangas, SM Lipa, SM Sto. Tomas, and SM Lemery gathered 607 volunteers and collected a total of 1,895 kilograms of plastic waste, PET bottles, debris, and other solid waste materials along the coastline of Barangay Aplaya, Bauan, Batangas.

The massive clean-up drive was made possible through the support of various partners, including the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Bauan, with the special participation of Bauan Mayor Wenda Dolor, municipal councilors, and Barangay Aplaya officials. Also present were representatives from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Batangas, Bauan Police Department, Batangas Coast Guard, BJMP, MDRRMO, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, and students from several academic institutions such as the National University, University of Batangas, Casa del Bambino School, As-Is Integrated School, Bauan Technological School, Sto. Niño School, and West Bauan Central School.

This marks the second leg of SM Supermalls’ Coastal Clean-Up initiative in line with its 40th Anniversary celebration. The first leg was held on June 7, 2025, where SM Batangas and SM Lipa joined forces at the PPA coastline in Barangay Sta. Clara, Batangas City, mobilizing 210 volunteers and collecting 718 kilograms of waste.

SM Supermalls is set to hold the third and final Coastal Clean-Up in November 2025, with the goal of mobilizing 40,000 volunteers nationwide to champion cleaner and more sustainable coastal communities.

Through these efforts, SM Supermalls reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and its advocacy for a cleaner, greener future for all.|
