Banga, Aklan—The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) participated in the 13th PEARS PASUC VI EMC Annual Regional Symposium held from November 5-7, 2024, at Aklan State University. This year’s theme, “Sustaining Communities Through Innovation: Advancing Extension Practices Across Sectors for Resilient and Inclusive Development,” set the stage for impactful discussions and presentations aimed at fostering community resilience.

Among the highlights, ISUFST secured the second runner-up award in the poster presentation category for their project titled ” Zero to Action: Assessing the Effectiveness of Proposal Writeshop and Implementation of Buligan Ta Ka Project.” ISUFST professors Joana Paula Biñas, Stephen Raymund Jinon, and Michelle Bales, with President Nordy Siason, authored this initiative that is classified under Cluster 3: Education, Culture, Social Science, and Behavioral Sciences. This recognition underscores the university’s commitment to advancing educational practices and research capabilities among educators.

ISUFST, meanwhile, excelled in the Engineering, Smart Analytics, and ICT Cluster in the extension project category where it clinched the 2-3 positions. The project titled “Transforming Social Welfare: Assessing the Impact of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Management System (AICS-MS) in San Enrique, Iloilo, Philippines” of professors Wenda Panes, Allan Dave Tagacay, and Miguel Palmares III, placed first runner-up. O

n the other hand, the project “Computer Utilization and Technology Transfer Endeavors (CompUTTE)” of professors Wenda Panes, Dave Allan Tagacay, and Analiza Alingalan, won second runner-up. Both extension projects were poised to assist institutions in the digitization and digitalization of their systems and processes, making it more sustainable, environment-friendly, and efficient.

The symposium provided a platform for participants to share innovative ideas and practices, enhancing the collaboration among state universities in the region. ISUFST’s notable achievements reflect its dedication to sustainable development and community engagement, reinforcing its role as a leader in education and extension services.
