May 13, 2024—The Department of Education Regional Office III, through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) will conduct the 2024 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) and the 2024 Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) simultaneously on May 20 to 22 in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
The RSPC, with the theme “From Campus Journalism to Real-World Journalism: Shaping Minds from Schools to Societies,” will be participated by both elementary and secondary school qualifiers from the 21 Schools Division Offices of the region including the newest SDO, DepEd Baliwag City.
The RSPC aims to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of Journalism by expressing it through different journalistic endeavors and approaches; sustain advocacy on social consciousness and environmental awareness; provide a venue for an enriching learning experience for students interested in Journalism as a career or those who intend to use skill sets learned through campus journalism to give them a better edge in their chosen careers; promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of social media; and enhance journalistic competence through healthy and friendly competitions.
The Individual Contests include News Writing, Features Writing, Editorial Writing, Sports Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Photojournalism, Editorial Cartooning, and Column Writing. Meanwhile, the Group Contests will be Radio Script Writing and Broadcasting Contest, Collaborative Desktop Publishing (CDP) Contest, Online Publishing Contest (for secondary level), TV Script Writing and Broadcasting Contests (for secondary level).
The School Paper Contests Categories shall also award the best News Section, Features Section, Editorial Section, Science and Technology Section, Sports Section, and Layout and Page Design.
The top ten winners in all events per contest category per medium shall be recognized and the points they will garner will be included in the computation of the overall scores.
The conduct of the 2024 RSPC is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 7079, otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 199 1, and in compliance with DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2010, entitled Guidelines on Financial Subsidy for the Conduct of the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) specifically Rule IX of Section 1.
Meanwhile, the 2024 RFOT, with the theme “Galing, Talino, at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa sa Diwa ng MATATAG na Adhika,” aims to provide opportunities for learners from public and private elementary and secondary schools as well as those from Alternative Learning System (ALS), Indigenous People Education (IPED), Special Needs Education Program (SNEd), and Madrasah Education Program (MEP) to showcase their talents and skills. It also provides a platform for strengthening teachers’ and learners’ knowledge and skill sets as they listen to the invaluable insights shared by the panel of experts.
The event categories in the 2024 RFOT include Sining Tanghalan, Population Development,
Read-A-Thon (English and Filipino), Lingo Stars, SNED Expo, Musabaqah, and STEMazing.
The said regional competitions will be held in preparation for the 2024 National Schools Press Conference and 2024 National Festival of Talents to be held on July 9 to 13 in Carcar City, Cebu.
