LIPA CITY, Batangas – Mary Mediatrix Medical Center (Mediatrix) has officially inaugurated its new expansion building, marking the completion of a ₱500 million investment aimed at significantly enhancing healthcare services and generating employment opportunities across Southern Luzon.
This strategic expansion reflects Mediatrix’s commitment to addressing the growing healthcare demands in the region, particularly in response to alarming rates of cardiovascular disease. Data shows that CALABARZON, where Batangas is located, ranks second in the country for heart attack cases—second only to Metro Manila. To strengthen its cardiac care services, Mediatrix has added a second catheterization laboratory (cath lab), making it the only hospital in the region equipped with two such facilities. This addition ensures quicker, more efficient treatment for heart attack patients, potentially reducing mortality rates.
Beyond clinical capacity, the investment encompasses the construction of a modern, multi-purpose medical building and the acquisition of internationally compliant medical equipment. The hospital’s newly completed structure includes 40 spacious and well-appointed patient rooms, an urgent care facility, a state-of-the-art Wellness Center catering to high-end and VIP patients, and an 8-bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) under its developing Neuroscience Center—also known as the “Brain Institute.”
In line with this infrastructure expansion, Mediatrix is actively recruiting 120 new nurses and intends to affiliate with 20 to 30 new physicians annually across various specializations, including cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, pediatrics, gastroenterology, and surgery. These efforts position Mediatrix not only as a leading provider of healthcare but also as a significant contributor to local employment and medical innovation. The hospital is also exploring the integration of robotic-assisted medical procedures in the near future.
President and CEO Jose Ronaldo H. De Los Santos emphasized that this investment is a strategic move to solidify Mediatrix’s standing as the leading private healthcare institution in Southern Luzon. As part of the Mount Grace Hospitals network—one of the largest in the country—Mediatrix benefits from strong institutional support and national collaboration.
The newly inaugurated facility was built to international standards and includes design features that allow it to function as an isolation unit during public health emergencies. Mediatrix is currently applying for a 210-bed license, with plans to expand to 240 beds in early 2026 and reach 300 beds by 2030.
Among its most notable initiatives is the launch of the Code HB: Heart of Batangas Program—the first of its kind in the Philippines. This program creates partnerships with hospitals across the region, providing them with training and protocols to stabilize and refer cardiac patients promptly to Mediatrix for advanced care.
Founded in 1958, Mary Mediatrix Medical Center has consistently delivered high-quality healthcare to the Batangas community. With this latest expansion, it reaffirms its role as a regional referral center and a national benchmark for patient-centered, advanced medical care.| – Kabayannews.net
